Our Story

Vaporbrothers was created by two friends, an artist "Geno" and an engineer "Linus" in early 1999. We were looking for a way to vaporize without hassle, since the common vaporizer of the day was slow, finicky, and tended to burn the herbs. The taste was important as well, as vapor could became stale by the time it was ready to inhale in the devices of the day.

We studied the two types of vaporizers that we knew about at the time, one being a glass globe vaporizer and Eterra. To make vaporizing easy, we created a new way to inhale heated air through herbs, instantly evaporating their oil content. The fact that the created vapor was inhaled the moment that it was created ensured that it tasted fresh.

Our "Glass-on-glass 100% convection" way of vaporizing heated the herbs gently, avoiding burned spots since the herbs never contacted hot surfaces. Once our invention delivered the cleanest, purest vapor we had ever experienced, we knew we had something worth sharing. The US Patent office approved three utility patents for this "Whip®" style of vaporizing.

Local Venice residents who were immersed in cutting edge ventures of health, hemp, and psychedelia took up the mantle of Vaporbrothers in the spring of 1999. We got immeasurable help from actor Woody Harrelson, his assistant Mariko and his brother Brett, also mutual friends who introduced us, Dr. Richard Deandrea and Steve Claps.

These important founders of our brand gave us material help and a platform to spread the notion of vaporizing throughout LA circles. Through his work with groundbreaking hemp fashion company Hempstead, Woody was already familiar. Dr Deandrea was currently running a project to convert inner city families to organic food and good nutrition. Steve Claps was furthering several ventures including his band Smoking Toads, a musical companion for people to use during their psychedelic experiences.

Since our beginnings, we've popularized the notion of vaporizing to America and abroad. Our iconic angled box vaporizer shape has become a common vaporizer type, although we only recommend inhaling from our brand as others don't consider the design limitations necessarily to ensure no outgassing of harmful chemicals. We exist to elevate the health and enjoyment of the people who use our invention. Users all the way back to our first days often tell us that vaporizers have improved their lives by making herb medication more accessible and effective, also by reducing exposure to the harmful products of smoking.

We are growing into the future not by rolling out new designs every year, but by perfecting what works. A design that compromises nothing on materials, lasts decades, and is backed by our warranty does not need to be reinvented.
